We are all interested in the future of the planet aren’t we? Well if you aren’t then you should be. The increase in temperature on our planet has already caused the seas to rise and it is looking increasingly likely that we will see some major problems if not in your lifetime then certainly in your children’s life time. There are some simple tips that can help you reduce your energy use, these are little things that wont affect the way you live your life but could affect the way your children do. Hot or Cold Water? Do you really need to use hot water? By using cold water when cleaning you can save a huge amount of energy. Do you need to use the hot tap when rinsing the bath? Does it make any difference? This will not only damage the planet but also increase your gas bill. Double Glazing Installing double glazing in your house will not only keep the heat in but may also reduce drafts and keep the sound from the noisy neighbors out. Energy Saving Light Bulbs You can save up to 80% on your energy costs by installing energy saving bulbs. These bulbs may be more expensive to buy but use 20% of the energy of a standard bulb and last up to 8 times as long, giving you long term savings. Stop dripping taps These might not seem to use much water but over weeks months and years the amount of wasted water and energy especially if it is a hot tap can be huge. Take extra time to turn off the tap properly and check if you need new washers, they cost pence and can save you a lot of money. Turn off everything not in use Did you know your TV uses nearly as much power when it is on standby as when it is switched on? In fact your large plasma TV uses as much as a hover in standby. Switch it off and save costs. This also goes for lights in rooms that are not being used and plug sockets that are not in use. Lids on! When cooking keep the lids on your pots, this will not only help the water boil quicker but it will also reduce your energy costs.
