The three main energy suppliers, British Gas, n Power and Powergen all claim to be the cheapest and best supplier in the UK. They all are very competitive and are all the best but in for different types of customers. Prices will differ in the energy suppliers depending on where you live, how large the house is and billing method. Price not even be a factor but who is the most green of energy suppliers and who offers the best customers service and protection for your energy supplies. British Gas was formed in 1997 and is the largest domestic supplier in the UK for gas and electricity. They currently have around 15 million customers with many old customers returning to British gas now they have had a price reduction with savings up to £211. This year British Gas has cut gas prices by 6% and electricity prices by 3%. There are dual fuel discounted prices of up to £113 and also claim to be the "greenest energy supplier" on the market. Powergen currently has 6 million customers and is currently doing a lot in the development of greener energy. Powergen is developing the worlds largest off shore wind farm and already has 21 wind farms throughout the country. Powergen has also reduced its prices by 16% for gas and 5% for electricity. This year they have launched three new plans, "energy guarantee", "gas guarantee" and "electricity guarantee". There is also a "Green Plan" product using renewable energy and offers free boiler inspection to for its customers. Powergen customers are currently promised no price rises until 2009 and price protection until 2010. npower is largest electricity specialist in the UK with 6.8 million customers, but does offer gas as well. They have reduced their gas prices by 16% and electricity by 3% this year with £21 addition discount for all their new customers. npower are also investing time and money into renewable energy. npower in the leader in hydroelectricity with 16 hydroelectric farms and also have 17 wind farms.
